  • Vincic Jr. wants Ancelotti to coach Real Madrid and Brazil

After Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Chelsea in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, Vincic Junior said Carlo Ancelotti is the best manager in the world, adding that he wants the Italian to coach him at both club and national team level.

On Wednesday at the Bernabeu Stadium, striker Karim Benzema scored a close-range goal in the 21st minute and Vincentius assisted, then substitute Marco Asensio doubled Madrid’s lead shortly after Ben Chilwell was sent off in the second half.

Ancelotti, who has been repeatedly linked with the vacant Brazilian national team coaching job this summer, has a contract with Madrid until 2024.

He is under pressure after trailing Barcelona by 13 points in the La Liga title race, although Atletico Madrid took him to the quarter-finals of the Champions League and the Copa del Rey final.

“Let’s hope it’s both!” With a smile, Vincic answered a journalist’s question whether he would prefer Ancelotti to coach Madrid or Brazil.

“For me, yes [he is the best coach in the world]. I don’t know about the others, but for me and for the players here he is”.

In his last 20 Champions League games, Vinci has scored an astonishing number of goals: 10 of them goals and 10 assists, including the winning goal in last year’s final.

“I see myself playing at my best and winning a lot of Champions Leagues, like Karim [Benzema] did, like Luka [Modric] did,” says Vinicius when asked if he sees himself as the next Ballon d’Or winner.

“They are all great players who have written their names here in the history of the best clubs in the world. ……. I hope I can sign a permanent contract [with Club de Madrid]”.

When 22-year-old Vinícius joined the Madrid club in 2018, he had previously been criticised for conceding goals, but the Brazilian striker has improved dramatically over the past two seasons, scoring 17 league goals in 2021, 22 this campaign and nine so far this campaign.

“I think it’s normal,” he said, “I left Brazil when I was 18 to join the best club in the world and it was difficult. From 18 to 21 I was studying, doing different things, working hard and now, two years and more than 200 games later, I’m playing better, it’s normal.”
